Day 1 - Arrive Paro – Transfer to Punakha & River Introduction

Welcome to Bhutan! Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport (PBH), your local guide and driver will greet you. After a warm introduction, you’ll be transferred to Punakha (1,250m), the former capital, a scenic drive of approximately 3 hours. On the way, you’ll cross the Dochula Pass (3,100m), offering stunning views of the Himalayas on a clear day. After checking into your hotel in Punakha, you’ll have a briefing on the rafting adventures ahead, including safety instructions and river options. Depending on your arrival time, you might have time for a short, introductory rafting session on a calmer section of the river, familiarizing yourself with the equipment and the gentle flow of the river.

Day 2 - Punakha - Pho Chhu Rafting Adventure

Today is dedicated to an exhilarating rafting experience on the Pho Chhu (Male River). The Pho Chhu offers a challenging and scenic run, with Class III and IV rapids, surrounded by dramatic gorges and pristine wilderness. You’ll spend a significant part of the day navigating the river’s exciting currents, enjoying the thrill of whitewater rafting under the guidance of experienced raft captains. Lunch will be provided along the riverbank, allowing for a refreshing break amidst the stunning scenery. For those seeking a truly immersive experience, you can choose to camp overnight by the river (optional, arranged in advance), enjoying the tranquility of the Bhutanese wilderness under the stars, a unique way to connect with nature.

Day 3 - Punakha - Mo Chhu Rafting & Dzong Exploration

After breakfast, you’ll explore the Mo Chhu (Female River). The Mo Chhu offers a different rafting experience, generally calmer than the Pho Chhu, with Class II and III rapids, making it suitable for a wider range of skill levels and providing equally stunning scenery with views of the surrounding valleys and lush vegetation. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong (Pungthang Dechen Phodrang), arguably the most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan, strategically located at the confluence of the two rivers you’ve just conquered, offering a profound cultural contrast to your morning’s adventure.

Day 4 - Punakha to Thimphu - Cultural Transfer & City Exploration

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Thimphu (2,350m), the capital city, a journey that takes you back over Dochula Pass. Upon arrival, check into your hotel. In the afternoon, you’ll begin exploring Thimphu’s cultural highlights, which may include a visit to Tashichho Dzong, the impressive fortress that houses the government and central monastic body, and the National Memorial Chorten, a significant spiritual landmark built in memory of the third king. Depending on the day, you might also visit the Centenary Farmers Market to experience local life and see a vibrant display of Bhutanese produce and traditional items.

Day 5 - Thimphu - Hike & Cultural Immersion

Today, you’ll combine a moderate hike with further cultural exploration in Thimphu. You’ll embark on a rewarding hike to Tango Monastery, a significant Buddhist monastery located north of Thimphu. The trail offers beautiful views of the valley and the surrounding mountains, providing a peaceful and invigorating experience. In the afternoon, you can choose to visit the Folk Heritage Museum to learn about traditional Bhutanese rural life and customs, or the National Institute for Zorig Chusum (School of 13 Arts and Crafts) to appreciate Bhutanese artistic traditions and the living heritage of the country.

Day 6 - Depart from Paro

After breakfast, your guide and driver will transfer you from Thimphu to Paro International Airport (PBH) for your departure, ensuring you carry with you the exhilarating memories of your Bhutanese rafting adventure and the profound cultural insights gained during your journey.
