Thruepang Palace

Thruepang Palace is a modest yet deeply significant historical site located just above the highway in Trongsa town. This simple two-storied Bhutanese palace holds immense importance as the birthplace of Bhutan’s third King, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, who was born here on May 2nd, 1928. It was also where he spent much of his early childhood, making it a poignant landmark connected to the lineage of the Bhutanese monarchy.

Though not as grand as other royal residences, Thruepang Palace offers a personal connection to the royal family’s history and humble beginnings. Its traditional architecture and serene courtyard provide a testament to the lifestyle of the monarchy in the early 20th century. The palace continues to be maintained and occasionally used by the Royal Family, serving as a reminder of the strong historical ties between Trongsa and the ruling Wangchuck dynasty.
