Tamzhing Lhakhang (Tamshing Lhakhang)

Tamzhing Lhakhang, meaning “Temple of the Good Message,” is one of the most important Nyingmapa temples in Bhutan, founded in 1501 by Pema Lingpa, the renowned Bhutanese terton (treasure revealer). This temple is famed for its unique architecture and its ancient wall paintings, which are some of the oldest surviving murals in Bhutan and are said to have been painted by Pema Lingpa himself.

The temple contains a sacred chain-mail armor, said to have been made by Pema Lingpa, which pilgrims can wear and circumambulate the inner sanctuary. The annual Tamzhing Phala Chhoepa festival is also held here. Tamzhing Lhakhang offers a profound glimpse into Bhutanese spiritual history, tantric iconography, and the artistic legacy of one of its most revered saints.
