Ura Valley & Village

Ura Valley is one highest and most distinctive valleys in Bumthang, characterized by its traditional clustered houses and unique agricultural practices. The houses in Ura are built close together, resembling a medieval European village, which is unique in Bhutan where houses are typically scattered. The village is surrounded by vast pastures, and the inhabitants are known for their yak herding and traditional farming.

Ura Village is also home to a significant monastery, Ura Lhakhang, and is particularly famous for its annual Ura Yakchoe festival, a vibrant event featuring masked dances and sacred rituals. A visit to Ura provides a captivating insight into a distinct sub-culture within Bumthang, offering opportunities to experience traditional village life, witness ancient rituals, and appreciate the serene beauty of a high-altitude agricultural community.
