Uncover the magic and mystery of beautiful Bhutan.
Perched majestically above the colossal Trongsa Dzong, the Trongsa Ta Dzong, or Trongsa Watchtower, once stood as a vigilant guardian against internal rebellions and external threats. Built in 1652 by Chogyal Minjur Tempa, the first governor of Trongsa, this circular five-story tower offers panoramic views of the dzong below and the surrounding valleys. Its strategic position was crucial in the defense of the region, ensuring the safety of the powerful Trongsa Penlop and the dzong.
Today, the Ta Dzong has been meticulously transformed into a state-of-the-art museum, known as the Tower of Trongsa Museum. Opened in 2008, it houses a magnificent collection of royal artifacts, religious treasures, and historical exhibits, providing a comprehensive insight into the history of the Wangchuck dynasty and the significance of Trongsa in shaping the Bhutanese nation. The museum’s galleries beautifully narrate the stories of Bhutanese monarchy, art, and culture.
