Khaling National Handloom Centre (Khaling Blind School & Weaving Centre)

The National Handloom Centre in Khaling, often associated with the Khaling Blind School (now officially called the National Institute for the Visually Impaired), is a unique and significant institution located in the Trashigang District. Established with the aim of preserving and promoting the traditional art of Bhutanese weaving, particularly for individuals with visual impairments, it offers a powerful example of inclusive cultural preservation.

At the center, students learn the intricate skills of weaving various Bhutanese textiles, producing high-quality fabrics, scarves, and other products. Visitors can witness the incredible dexterity and dedication of the weavers, many of whom are visually impaired, demonstrating their mastery of traditional loom techniques. The center not only contributes to the preservation of Bhutan’s rich textile heritage but also empowers individuals with disabilities, making it a truly inspiring and meaningful place to visit.
