Jigme Dorji National Park (JDNP)

Jigme Dorji National Park (JDNP) is Bhutan’s second-largest national park, encompassing a vast area within the Gasa district and extending into parts of Thimphu, Paro, Punakha, and Wangdue Phodrang. It is one of the most biologically diverse areas in the eastern Himalayas, characterized by a dramatic range of ecosystems, from subtropical broadleaf forests to alpine meadows and glaciers. The park is named after the third King of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, who was a passionate conservationist.

JDNP is a vital conservation area, home to an incredible array of rare and endangered wildlife, including the elusive Snow Leopard, the Bhutan Takin, Red Panda, Blue Sheep, and various species of pheasants and Himalayan birds. It also contains several sacred sites, including Mount Jomolhari and Mount Jichu Drake, and is a popular destination for multi-day treks like the Laya-Gasa Trek. The park offers unparalleled opportunities for wildlife viewing, trekking, and experiencing Bhutan’s pristine natural heritage.
