Your Bhutan Experience Starts Right Here
Uncover the magic and mystery of beautiful Bhutan.
Haa Wangchuk Lo Dzong, commonly known as Haa Dzong, is one of Bhutan’s newer dzongs, constructed in 1915 to replace an older structure that was destroyed by fire. Situated on the lush valley floor of Haa, this impressive fortress serves as the administrative center for the Haa district and is also the headquarters of the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Bhutan. Its strategic location and solid architecture reflect its role in defending against past invasions from Tibet.
While the dzong is an active military and administrative complex, and full tours may not always be permitted, its architectural grandeur can be admired from afar. Its presence is one of the first sights for visitors arriving in Haa, signifying the valley’s historical importance and its continued role in national security. The dzong’s design, though smaller than some of Bhutan’s other major fortresses, is a fine example of traditional Bhutanese engineering and aesthetic.
