Juneydrak Hermitage

Juneydrak Hermitage is a quaint and secluded meditation retreat perched precariously on the vertical face of a mountain towards the north of Haa Valley, approximately 40 minutes from Katsho village. This unique hermitage is renowned for the imprinted footprint of Machig Labdron, a revered 11th-century Tibetan tantric practitioner and the founder of the Chöd lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, who is said to have meditated here.

The path to the hermitage is a serene journey through fields of rhododendrons, leading to a challenging ascent that involves a precarious wooden ladder to reach the cliff-hugging retreat. The hermitage offers a profound sense of peace and isolation, a perfect spot for spiritual reflection and appreciation of the raw beauty of the Himalayan landscape. Its remote and dramatic setting makes it a truly special and memorable destination for adventurous pilgrims and travelers.
