Your Bhutan Experience Starts Right Here
Uncover the magic and mystery of beautiful Bhutan.
Lhakhang Karpo, meaning “White Temple,” is one of Bhutan’s most ancient and revered religious sites, believed to have been constructed in the 7th century by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. According to legend, King Songtsen Gampo released a white and a black pigeon to select sites for two temples, and the Lhakhang Karpo was built where the white pigeon landed. Situated at the foothills of the sacred Meri Puensum mountains, this temple is dedicated to the guardian deity Ap Chhundu, who is widely worshipped in the Haa Valley.
The temple’s simple yet profound architecture is adorned with exquisite murals and paintings, embodying the values of kindness and Dharma. It serves as a central spiritual hub for the local community, and the annual Haa Tshechu festival is often held in its vicinity. Visiting Lhakhang Karpo offers a deep connection to Bhutan’s early Buddhist history and a chance to experience the serene spiritual atmosphere of the valley.
