Punakha Suspension Bridge

The Punakha Suspension Bridge is one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, spanning approximately 160 to 180 meters across the turbulent Pho Chhu River. Adorned with countless colorful prayer flags that flutter in the wind, it offers a visually striking and exhilarating crossing experience, connecting Punakha Dzong to the villages on the other side, including Shengana, Samdingkha, and Sangkha. While it serves a practical purpose for local villagers, it has also become a major tourist attraction.

The bridge provides spectacular panoramic views of the Punakha Dzong, the river confluence, and the verdant valley, making it a favorite spot for photography and enjoying the natural scenery. Walking across the swaying bridge, high above the churning waters, offers a gentle thrill and a unique perspective on the surrounding landscape. It’s a testament to traditional Bhutanese engineering and a picturesque addition to the Punakha experience.
