Folk Heritage Museum (Phelchey Toenkhyim)

The Folk Heritage Museum, or Phelchey Toenkhyim, offers a fascinating journey into the traditional Bhutanese rural life, providing visitors with a deep insight into the country’s material culture and way of life from centuries past. Founded in 2001 by Her Majesty, the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the museum is housed within a beautifully preserved three-story, 19th-century traditional rammed earth and timber house, providing an authentic setting for its exhibits.

The museum showcases a wide array of artifacts, tools, and traditional practices, including agricultural implements, household objects, and traditional Bhutanese cuisine. It vividly illustrates how people lived, worked, and interacted with their environment. Through various exhibitions and demonstrations, the Folk Heritage Museum helps visitors understand the resilience and ingenuity of Bhutanese rural communities, preserving a vital aspect of the nation’s heritage for future generations.
