Your Bhutan Experience Starts Right Here
Uncover the magic and mystery of beautiful Bhutan.
The Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory offers a unique opportunity to witness the traditional Bhutanese art of paper-making, known as “deh-sho.” Established in 1990 by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and later privatized, the factory aims to preserve this ancient craft and adapt it for modern commercial purposes. It utilizes traditional methods and natural materials, primarily the bark of the Daphne and Dekap trees, to produce high-quality, durable paper.
Visitors can observe the entire intricate process, from boiling and pulping the bark to drying and pressing the sheets. The factory also features a small shop where visitors can purchase various handmade paper products, including traditional manuscripts, greeting cards, lampshades, and notebooks. This attraction provides an engaging and educational experience, highlighting Bhutan’s commitment to sustaining its traditional crafts and offering unique souvenirs.
