The Motithang Takin Preserve is a unique wildlife reserve located in the Motithang district of Thimphu, dedicated to the preservation of the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal. Originally a mini-zoo, it was converted into a preserve when it was observed that the Takin, a bizarre-looking animal with the head of a goat and the body of a cow, refused to inhabit the surrounding forest even when released.
