Royal Textile Academy & National Textile Museum

The Royal Textile Academy (RTA) and National Textile Museum are dedicated to preserving, promoting, and educating the public about the exquisite art of Bhutanese weaving, a vital part of the nation’s cultural heritage. Established in May 2005 under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Mother Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, the academy serves as both a museum showcasing ancient and contemporary textiles and a training institute for aspiring weavers, ensuring the continuity of this intricate craft.

The museum’s collection features a stunning array of Bhutanese textiles, from traditional Gho and Kira (national dress) to ceremonial garments and elaborate religious fabrics, each telling a story through its patterns, colors, and weaving techniques. Visitors can observe weavers at work, learning about the complex processes involved in creating these masterpieces. The Royal Textile Academy offers a profound appreciation for Bhutan’s rich artistic traditions and its commitment to preserving a significant aspect of its national identity.
