Day 1 - Arrival in Paro – Transfer to Thimphu

Highlight: Arrive in Paro and visit Tschogang Lhakhang, Tashichho Dzong, and King’s Memorial Chorten in Thimphu.

Welcome to Bhutan, the land of the “Thunder Dragon”!

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, your local guide and driver will meet you at the arrivals hall for a warm welcome and brief introduction.

You will be transferred to Thimphu (2,350m), the capital city of Bhutan. The drive covers about 54 kilometers and takes approximately 1 hour.

On the way, visit Tschogang Lhakhang, a private temple known as the temple of the excellent horse. Continue to Chuzom, where the Paro Chhu and Wong Chhu rivers converge, marked by three distinct stupas representing Tibetan, Nepalese, and Bhutanese styles.

After arriving in Thimphu, check in to your hotel and rest.

In the afternoon, visit Tashichho Dzong, the impressive fortress housing Bhutan’s central monastic body and government offices, and the summer residence of the Je Khenpo, Bhutan’s Chief Abbot.

Next, visit the King’s Memorial Chorten, built in 1974 in honor of the third King, featuring statues of tantric Buddhist deities and philosophy.

Overnight stay in Thimphu.

Day 2 - Thimphu Shightseeing and Drive to Punakha

Highlight: Cross Dochu La pass and visit Punakha Dzong and Chimi Lhakhang.

In the morning, you will drive from Thimphu to Punakha (1,242m). The distance from Thimphu to Punakha is 71 kilometers, and it will take you around 3 hours to complete. On the way, you will have an excellent opportunity to appreciate the panoramic view of the Himalaya Ranges in Bhutan and take photos of the impressive collection of 108 chortens at Dochula Pass (3,140m).

After arriving at Punakha, you will head to visit the Punakha Dzong. Standing by the riverside of Pho Chu and Mo Chu, Punakha Dzong is one of the most impressive buildings and one of the top favorite attractions in Bhutan. More importantly, the rectangular shape fortress is also an honorable treasury where preserves numerous Buddhist relics and historical legacies.

After witnessing the superb Punakha Dzong, you will continue to visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as Chime Monastery, is a beautiful Buddhist monastery located in the Punakha District of Bhutan. It stands on a small round hillock close to the village of Lobesa and was built in 1499 by the 14th Drukpa hierarch, Ngawang Choegyel.

Stay overnight in Punakha.

Day 3 - Punakha – Gangtey (Phobjikha Valley)

Highlight: Explore Gangtey Monastery and the pristine Phobjikha Valley.

After breakfast, drive to Gangtey (2,900m), located in the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, taking about 3-4 hours.

Visit Gangtey Monastery, one of the most important Nyingmapa monasteries in Bhutan, perched on a hilltop with panoramic views.

Explore the glacial valley of Phobjikha, famous for its black-necked cranes during winter months and its unspoiled natural beauty.

Enjoy a gentle nature walk in the valley, soaking in the tranquil atmosphere.

Overnight stay in Gangtey.

Day 4 - Gangtey – Paro

Highlight: Return to Paro with an optional visit to Ta Dzong (National Museum).

After breakfast, drive back to Paro (2,250m), a journey of approximately 4 hours.

Upon arrival, visit Ta Dzong, Bhutan’s National Museum, housing an extensive collection of artifacts, art, and historical items.

Optional: Visit Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery and administrative center.

Explore Paro town and its quaint shops and cafes.

Overnight stay in Paro.

Day 5 - Paro – Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) Hike and Departure

Highlight: Hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery and depart from Paro.

Early morning, hike to Taktsang Monastery (3,120m), one of Bhutan’s most famous landmarks perched on a cliffside 900 meters above Paro valley. The hike takes 3-4 hours round trip.

Enjoy breathtaking views and visit the monastery, a sacred site where Guru Rinpoche meditated.

Return to Paro town for lunch and last-minute shopping or sightseeing.

Transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure flight.
